The Slayer
I have always been a fan of supernatural novels and films. One of my all time favorite stories of this genre is Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The fact that she was in love with a vampire and saved the world from evil held a certain charm for me. Than I asked myself, "why in the world would fighting demons and slaying vampires (aka evil, demonic beings) have such a draw?" It seems that today society accepts and loves anything paranormal. Now with the Twilight films and books being such a hit, you see vampires and werewolves everywhere and on everything and anything you can imagine! These evil things are just a lure from the devil, but why not twist it around? I have just finished reading one of the Buffy novels, and it was basically the story of the usual good vs. evil that included the traditional apocalyptic end-of-the-world elements. The fact that Buffy and her friends, although fearful, stood up to the evil power that was bringing the world to ruin with courage in the face of their demise was inspiring. I use the term loosely, but shouldn't we be "slayers" for Christ? Trying to save the world by spreading the Word? We fight and be as brave as we can because we have that hope living inside of us. Twist these paranormal stories and use it for good (granted, Twilight would be a hard one to twist, but there is always good vs. evil in everything, right?).
